Communication Opportunity Exploration

A case study with Fostering NSW

The Context

In view of new legislations by the NSW Government, FNSW are reconsidering their strategy, marketing and public awareness campaigns.

This includes a name change to reflect new legislation and to achieve better and permanent placement outcomes for children in care.

The Challenge

The challenge was to determine and test the way in which FNSW could talk to potential foster carers and increase their openness to foster care and adoption.

The Journey

Qualitative and quantitative research was run concurrently to identify attitudes and opinions regarding fostering and adoption, and opportunities for FNSW to influence these opinions.

  • Focus groups with women aged between 30-59.
  • Survey with respondents, representative of the 18+ population in NSW.

The Results

These findings helped identify how FNSW could best talk about themselves to potential foster carers, keeping in mind the barriers and drivers to fostering and adoption.

Their campaign went on to garner half a million website visits, 11,000 enquires and 5000 referrals.
